Langtang Valley Trek
Trip Overview

The Langtang Valley Trek is special because it offers breathtaking views of mountains, glaciers, and forests. It is also a chance to see wild animals, old Buddhist monasteries, and local Yak cheese factories. You can meet friendly people and learn about their way of life. This 8-day trek starts and ends at Syabrubeshi or Dhunche, which is about a 7-hour drive from Kathmandu. Since there is no airport, the only way to reach the trekking point is by road.

For more culture, the Tamang Heritage Trail lets you experience the life of the Tamang people, including their homes, crafts, and hot springs. Another amazing trek is the Gosaikunda Trek, which takes you to a sacred mountain lake. The Langtang Region is a hidden gem for trekking lovers.

Langtang Valley Trek Highlights - Amazing Places you will visit
  • Kyanjin Gompa (3870m):This village has an old Buddhist monastery and a cheese factory where you can try fresh Yak cheese. It is the last village on this trek and a great place to explore the beauty of the Himalayas.
  • Langtang National Park:The Langtang Valley Trek takes you through Langtang National Park, home to many rare animals and plants. The park was created in 1976 and covers 1,710 sq km. Walking in this peaceful area makes you feel relaxed and happy.
  • Stunning Mountain Views:As you walk, you will see big snow-covered mountains, including:
    • Langtang Lirung (7,324m)
    • Dorje Lakpa (6,966m)
    • Ganesh Himal
    • Yala Peak (5,520m)
You will also see glaciers shining under the sun, making the views even more magical.
  • Food & Places to Stay:Even though Langtang is a remote area, there are tea houses where you can stay and eat simple but tasty Nepali food. The people in these villages are kind and welcoming. Rooms usually have two beds and a shared bathroom. During busy trekking seasons, it’s best to book your stay early.
  • Experience the Unique Tamang Culture:The people living in Langtang are Tamang, an ethnic group with a rich culture. They have their language, music, and festivals. Their biggest festival is Sonam Lhochhar, which celebrates the Tamang New Year in February or March.
You will hear Tamang songs and see their traditional dance. The Damphu (a small drum) and the Cello are popular musical instruments in their culture.
  • Sacred Gosainkunda Lake (4,380m):A highlight of the trek is Gosainkunda Lake, a beautiful and holy lake at the top of the hills. In winter, the lake freezes, and some trekkers even try skating on it! Hindus and Buddhists believe the lake is sacred and visit it for religious rituals.
  • Tserko Ri Viewpoint (4984m):For those who love adventure, a day hike to Tserko Ri is a must! It offers amazing views of the Langtang and Tibetan mountains, including Mt. Shishapangma (8,027m), the 14th highest mountain in the world.
  • A Trek for Everyone:The Langtang Valley Trek is perfect even for those who don’t have much trekking experience. It is a low-altitude trek, meaning less risk of altitude sickness. Many families bring their kids on this trek because the trail is not too difficult.
  • Best Time to Visit:The best time to go on this trek is:
    • Autumn (September – December): Clear skies, fresh air, and great views of the mountains.
    • Spring (February – May): Colorful flowers like rhododendrons bloom, making the trail even more beautiful.
It is best to avoid trekking during the monsoon season (June – September) because of heavy rain.
  • A Guaranteed & Safe Trek: This trek is safe and enjoyable for all ages. The Nepal High Trek & Expedition team is ready to make your Langtang trek in 2025/2026 a wonderful experience.
